Effective Front Covers

Here are some front covers, that have been already used which i think are very effective as most people i no will by them. Also comparing them to other magazines it is more eye-catching.

Evaluation Of My Work So Far

In my ideas so far I think i no what colours i am going to use and also what font I am going to use on my final music magazine.

Here are some fonts that i am thinking of using, at the moment i am thinking about using the "you are loved" the second from bottom, as i think it will look good on my page as it is different and shows eye catching features.

I have started thinking about what colours i will put on my magazine, as I have been looking though magazines i have noticed that in magazines the colour scheme is consistant, the only problem with this effect is I need to choose the right colours as i could appear to be boring.
These are a couple of colours i hame thinking of doing.

Grey and blue

As you can see by the colours that i have choosen they arnt the brightest colours however i want the text and back groud to remain duller then the main picture to make the picture stand out.

Names And Feedback For Magazine Name

An English Thing
Feedback (Liam): The first name that i have chosen dose not show much interest in music although i could expand on my idea as the magaizne could just have british music in side.

British Top 40
Feedback (Emily): this name is quite affective but not as much as An English Thing. I think this name is too simple and might not get the reader's attention.

Cool Britannia
Feedback (Emily): I personally like this name because it is very british, it has just been edited a little bit. Its catchy and affective.

EM (English Music)
Feedback (Emily): I like the way the you have shortened the name and just used two letters. I think if you put a slogan with this name it will get the reader's attention.

Feedback (Mr Begg): This is to long for a title and have advised me to make the magazine title be shorter. (PIM maybe).

EnM (relating to RnB, English and Music)
Feedback (Mr Begg): This magazine name is very effective and catchy and i think that it will draw poeople to magazine it will attract the readers attention.

Sound (swnd)
Feedback (Mr Begg): The title is quiet plain although the way in which the word sound is spelt different is very clever and would draw the unger generation to read the magazine.

Finished Contents Page

This is my finished contents page, i have done far more layering on these pictures, as i have learned more with fireworks. I have chosen back and blue to put as the background behide the contents page title. I put a picture of the 6th form in the background again. Although i have made the picture back this effect is useful to show as a background and also looks very good. I have also made the background behide the pages blue to make it stand out on the picture. I made the writing yellow to make it stand out. On the heads of the picture i put some pictures on the other pictures to show more layering. At the botttom of the page i just got a plain picture of Iron man coloured it in plain white and put a new teacher arrow on it a simple idea but also a effective one. I left the back of the page blank to show someother colours to the page.

Finished Front Cover

I have changed from my first idea`s of the dull colours, and expanded on the colours to bright colours in stead of dull. The background I kept simple white canvis so that the bright red and yellow will brust out of the page. At the top of the page i have done a banner which has the date of the magazine to show that it is a consistant magazine. which there will be a new one each week. On each bit of text i have put a black boarder to make the text stand out even more. In the biggest lettering i have writne "NEW" to draw the persons eyes to the magzine also as it is on the picture i have made the picture abit see though, also i have put some layering between the text and the picture. i have made the picture overlap the main title to show that the picture is the main attraction to the page. Although i have put some of the other text overlaping the picture to show contrast between the two.

1 Contents Page Prelim

I dont think this contents page needs much more to add to it as i think it looks very good. In my point of view however i will get some feedback from other people in my class to see if they agree with the front cover. The colours i used are constrasting and stand out very well against each other. The bright yellow contrasts with the dark blue background. The feedback that i have resived says that inbetween the contents title and the page numbers looks a little blank. So i thought off addying more pictures i will try some ideas and then see how it looks.

3 Front Cover Prelim

In this front cover i try ed a different way off showing what is going to be in the magazine, instead of word i did a picture col large. Which is showing the Kenya trip, are school with new improvements and also are new sixth form. I kept this front cover very simple as it is for the unger ages, the year 9s coming up who mite not want to read. I put a banner at the top of the page to show that it is a consistant magazine which also shows that it is a success full magazine.

I have kept the magazine article simple at first as i dont have many ideas but if i continue to look though magazines i will get more ideas, In the background i just painted it plain black and then got a simple picture of to lads in the sixthform and told them to strike a pose. Also i have edited out the background in the picture to blend the uniforms in the background. The colours that i have chosen is a blue which would stand out on the page. Also i have used layering as i have put some of the title over the top. This magazine front cover is very simple at i will need to add more to this. My ideas that i could use are some subheadings around the main picture to make a sort of frame, or i could take more pictures of different stuidents that mite appear in the magazine. at put a few more pictures in the bottom hand page.

5 Double Page Spread

This magazine i would say is the best magazine that i have analysed as the lettering is very good, if you were flicking though a magazine and saw this you would stop look and have a read. Also the way the lettering is not just in a straight line it over laps with the picture and goes in wavy lines also the letters change size. The designer of this magazine has aimed this magazine at the noise yer age group as it looks a fun page and this draws you in. However this could be seen to the older person as childish and not want to read the magazine further. The picture that they have used is a bit closer than a medium close up but not as close up to just see the face expressions.

The background is very simple as a white background with plain black text the isn't as much text with this magazine then the others i have analysed this is better as most teenagers aged people want to no story's about celebrates in a quick way, basically in the least amount of words. The picture and the writing is over lapping the page in away that groups them together i like this method as it looks more professional and looks more like a double page spread. Also on this magazine they have the designer of the page in red writing next to the title;e and also in the text it has the artists name in red writing this makes the reader want to read the text as it is mentioning her name.

4 Double Page Spread

This front cover is very well presented as it states it audience at the top of the page in bold lettering and in a light colour which is to make is stand out more. This magazine cover is more for the rock kind of music at you can basically ques from the picture of the group. Also in the far right of the double page spread there is a separate box in black, which gives you a brief distribution of a band. In the top corner of the page they have a consistent logo which is at the top left hand side. "Radar" this is separated with a light blue box which also stands out in the picture background. They also use at the bottom of the picture to say who it is in the photograph and also what songs they sing. The heading "Teenagers" also links the two pages to gather which is a good method to use when doing a double page spread. the main text about the band is separated in normal colour text which is white back ground with a black text to make the writing stand out. The picture that they have used in the double page spread is a medium range picture this is a useful as it shows both the face expressions and also what the artists look like. If i hat to improve on this i would put more things in to join the pages, like a bigger picture which would over lap with the second page or something like that.

3 Double Page Spread

This magazine cover is quiet boring to be honest, i don't find it very appealing at all and it looks very dull, there is nothing that draws me to look at the page further.The text colour is the best thing on the page as the colours stand out with the background, also it has a bold title which is easy to read and good colour to use against the white background. The picture that they have used is a medium range shot which has come up in nearly all of the double page spreads and the front covers that i have done. They use this to show what the artist is wearing and also to see there face expressions. Half way down the text there is a subheading which shows a bold title to make it stand out more, i don't think that this magazine will appeal to the teenage generation as i find it very boring and i believe so will other people my age. However this may appeal to the older generation.

2 Double Page Spread

This is a normal way of doing a music magazine picture one side of the page , writing the other. It is a simple way of doing a double page spread however i wont choose to do this as the only thing that is linking the page is a small black bar across the top. As if somebody had never seen the singer from pink before they mite not see the compression between the to. Although the wright is very clear and easy to read. They have chosen to use a close up shot on the page, to show her face expressions as being happy, also above the PINK title it says that they have paid her to answer some questions which would draw people in to think that it would be good gossip. Also most of the text is black on a white background.to make the text stand out more. However they have chosen to do the more important parks in a silvery colour to make them stand out different then the rest of the text. There is some small text in the bottom side of her picture to make sure people no who she is and also to say what she is smiling about in brief description. The bits of the page that i do not like are that the pages do not seem to be linked and i would have do a one third writing two thirds spread as this is more appealing to the eye.

1 Double Page Spread

The way that this double page spread is very different to the single spread, as you can fit more on the page and also attempt to do different layouts. As in this one they have a bold heading in a eye catching colour to draw a reader to the page. The colour sceam is also very good as it is consistant though out the page. However the colour sceam changes when the pictures come on as the pictures are very dark which brings the writing out aswel so atht it dose not seperate anything on the page. In the top corner as such a banner it says "behide the scenes" which wuld draw any reader in who wants to keep up with the life of cerlebatry singers.

The pictures which they have used are mostly long shots to show the face expressions and what they are wearing . They have made it so all the page over laps with the other to join the pages. This tecnie is very good as it is clever and also difficult to do but in the long run looks far better.
Below the pictures there is a small box which says a little about what is in the picture and also who they are.

5 Contents Page Analysis

This contents page is from "Q" magazine it is set out similar to a news paper magazine. I am saying this due to the layout as it has a bold title at the top of the page. Also at the top of the page it has a date which suggests that this is a Dayle or weekly magazine (like a newspaper). Also on the left hand side of the magazine article. Down the page it has the titles of the what the magazine is covering, to make the reader scan though and browse what the magazine has to offer in its in er pages. At the bottom of the page in a seperate box to make it stand out more, this makes the page appeal more eye-catching.

The picture that is next to the writing is the main attraction to the page to draw you to the page. The shot which they have done is a medium range shot. Which shows what th artist are wearing and how they look. Also this will draw fans to look in the magazine.

4 Contents Page Analysis

This contents page is also very different compared to the others as the colour scheme is much more different then they others, i am talking about the colour scheme is really dieerent to all of the others as its a sort of background that draws you too look at it. some of the features are not very effective such as the colours as you can not read it, the page appears to be very boring. To much text and very few pictures reminds me of a school powerpoint presentation contents page.

3 Contents Page Analysis

The contents page for "This Week" music magazine is mainly very formal. It shows the main news (in this weeks magazine, it is Oasis). On the left hand side there are subheadings which cover the main titles. As the main attraction to the page are the to pictures of the band "Oasis" then underneath a brief description on is how the band is doing. The colour scheme is very boring and not very eye-catching. So I would say this magazine would be for the older generation. In big letters above the page they say "This Week" to assure the reader that he is being kept to date. The pictures that they have taken are medium close up.

2 Contents Page Analysis

This contents page is lay ed out very well, as instead of the pictures having a boarder around them, now the writing has a borer around it. The pictures that they have used are medium range photos, they have used this techie to show what the artist is wearing and also so you can see there face expressions to show what the person is like. In the pictures they have used dark colours in the background in which they have used. Also to make the writing stand out and draw the person into read the contents they have made a bright white section in the centre of the page. As they have chose to use the dark pictures around the out side of the text this stands out very well. They have also chosen to put the text in bold black lettering so that it is easy to read.

The reason for the the way they have set it out is so make the writing in this case will be more important however there is a number of pictures on this page draws both kind of magzine byers to carrie on reading also pictures draw more people to the page then writing dose.

This contents page is relatively different to the other one I have evaluated so far although it dose show some similarities.
The way I which the designer has created the page with the basic layout. They have placed the "Club NME" logo in the top left hand corner. Although I haven’t looked at the rest of the magazine imp questing that they have used a repetitive layout over the pages. The banner at the top of the page with the date on shows that this is repetitive to also suggests that this is a weekly magazine. Linking to page one, in stead of writing what will be on the page like the other pages, they have token a middle distance image of the band on page one and giving a brief discretion of the band and what wall be on the page.
Also the way, in which they have set out the page, where it says the new chart hits on the left hand side of the page and then the main day to day contents page underneath the cover. The covers on the page are contrasting and also linking to the front of the page. To make the colour seem repetitive. Also they have put some advertising on the bottom of the page which will encourage people to by next week’s magazine.

5 Front Cover Analysis

This magazine cover is very different in the ways the other magazines are structured as there is less text then all of the other magazines. It has the main title at the top of the page to symbolise that it is "Zone" magazine. Further more all this magazine seems to have on the cover is a picture of "Soul Boy" this is similar to the "Rolling stones" magazine where as the picture is basically the most important thing on the page. Although the magazine is promoting is 7 year anniversary which is states on the page in the same type of righting as the companies name. Which shows that it means it’s the companies seven year anniversary not the singers on the front cover. On this front cover there are two pictures on the page which is different to all the other magazines that I have analysed. Which is promoting the magazine to more viewers? The layout of the page is very simple in away I doesn’t need allot of reading its just a look magazine the way this would work is that you look at the magazine and then decide bi it or leave it, this teenier is very risky as it dose not show any type of sales skills although some times the plainer the better, as this magazine would attract the Unger ages like teenagers who would not want to read the magazine straight of.

The "souja boy" name is in bright orange to draw the reader to look at the magazine and then as they are looking the name will stand out from a distance and as it is big text is easy to read. It appears as the most important writing on the page. The picture is over lapping the magazine name "Zone" to show that it is the most important thing on the page. Also it has a small banner at the top of the page would a reader walking by would look at straight away when picking up the magazine.

4 Front Cover Analysis

In the magazine covers that i have done an analysis of what I have done so far this is the most, different as the other magazines are "RnB" and now i have started to look at the "Rock" side. The way in which the rock posters have been lay ed out is quiet different from the "RnB". Such as the magazine basically looks exclusive for just the band on the front which in this magazine is the "Rolling Stones". Although on the far bottom of the front cover it gives a brief distribution of what else might be in the magazine. The pictures on the magazine are basically there to pull the passing eye. n draw it to look at the front cover, then they will read the headlines and then read and bye the magazines. The magazine also has a banner at the top of the page, which would just say something different every week, also they colour the banner in black bold lettering as if to separate the banner from the rest of the page, as it has nothing to do with the page.

On this page they do not have a frame for the page with the picture in the middle, although the picture dose not need a border as the picture is the page, although this techie wont work if, teh band is not very well known then the magazine will not sell. The company must no this and must be confident that people will bi the magazine. Although they have included a little text in the bottom right corner of the page. They have put it in white so that it dose not take over the page. Put further down the page in big lettering they have the second attraction to the page which they have put it smaller text then the rolling stones but it is bigger then the smaller white righting in the bottom colour. So it portrays it as the second most important thing in the magazine.

3 Front Cover Analysis

In magazine "Vibe" which i have also used in one of the magazines above, have also used the same method of layout as they did with the "Kanye West" front cover story, they have also used the same colours which are contrasting colours to draw the eye to the magazine cover. They have also tryed to portray the way in which "Usha is looked at as a hard man, which is made to look more like the gangster. Again the "Vibe" magazine has covered up there own name to show that Usha is the most important thing on the page.

2 Front Cover Analysis

The way in which "Nyion" have portrayed the way in which "Lily Allen" has come back into singing as being more like an icon. They have used more off a long shot so see all of her. They have used this technique so show that she is back "brave new girl", the way in which they have used a big picture to show its all about her and the only words that over lap her picture is her name. Linking to the structure off the magazine like the "Kanye West" magazine the words headings around the picture are put around them to make a sort off border around the picture to make it stand out. they have also used alot of contrasting colours to make the words stand out.

This particular magazine cover, shows Kanye West on the "vibe" front cover. The magazine shows "Kanye West" out to portay a gangster type person. The way in which they have took the picture of him is a big close up to show his facial expression to make him look like a rapper (which would be a more tough look). "Kanye Wests" head goes over the main title of the headline to show that he is the most important thing on the page. Also the contrasting colours that they have used (pink and blue) are put on to the page to make it more eyecatching which will draw you to look at the page. Also as they have used a large picture which would draw people to look at the magazine as it may be showing there favourate rapper. The writing around the main picture (Kanye West) the writing has formed a short of frame around the picture to draw you to look at the image and also as they do not want to show that the writing is more important then the picture.
